2.0 Job Description

Job Title: Field Technician in Archaeologist
Reports to: Director of Cultural Heritage Innovation Program
Location / Hours: Puerto Rico Municipalities – Full-Time
Purpose: The Field Technician in Archaeologist will support the archaeological survey though shovel testing. Also, the Field Technician should excavate archaeological features, manually removing brush or vegetation, and carrying and maintaining tools and equipment.

Must have academic of the theory or experience in archaeological survey, excavation, documentation, mapping, data collection, research design, analysis of data and maps, and field identification and preservation of cultural resources.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. The Field Technician in Archaeologist Position must require to be under the supervision of a certified Archaeologist to comply with, but not limited to any federal or local standards.
  2. The candidate shall be aware to read and understand the

Nationwide Programmatic Agreement of May 2002;
General Manual 420, Part 401; National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, amended 2001; State Level Agreement with SHPO, and tribal agreements as applicable, to exercise a professional judgement over the conservation’s methods.

  1. Basic knowledge on archaeological survey, testing, data recovery, and/or construction monitoring and ensures quality and completeness of data collected and compliance with the regulations and reports time schedule.
  2. Require hard work to excavate, walk and carry on equipment for long periods of time.
  3. Conduct fieldwork for long hours (sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain,) and to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  4. Require traveling to different locations through the Island.

Qualifications & Technical Job Requirements:
  1. Basic knowledge on related archaeology field works, or excavation method and documentation, and use of instruments and data analysis not limited to maps, satellite images, GPS, GIS, distance measure field equipment.
  2. Teamwork skills and instructions follower.
  3. Excellent communication skills. Strong command of written and verbal communication in English and Spanish; fully bilingual.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as persuasive abilities to influence cooperation and collaboration.
  5. Capable of prioritizing work (meet deadlines, able to work under pressure);
  6. Ability to work within a team and provide support.
    1. Proficient computer user with equal knowledge of software programs and Internet; ARCGIS, and archive data base.
Education Requirements: Associated Degree or 1-3 years of experience in archaeological fieldworks under Archaeologist supervision.
Profesional Experience One year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archeological research, administration, or management and
demonstrated ability to carry research to completion
